VI. the renovation of Heaven and Earth

2 Peter 3:10-13, ‘But the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Since all these things are going to be dissolved in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? In holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking forward to and hastening the coming of the day of God, in which the heavens will be dissolved by fire and the elements will melt with fervent heat. 13 But according to his promise, we look for a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.’

Revelation 20:11, ‘Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the sky fled away, and there was no place for them.’

Revelation 21:1, ‘Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.’

According to 2 Peter 3:10-13, the heavens passed away with a loud noise and the elements of the earth melted with fervent heat. At this time, all the water in the oceans on the earth evaporated and the oceans disappeared. Two-thirds of the earth is ocean. This ocean water provides moisture to the earth and regulates the climate. Living things cannot eat ocean water as it is. So, by removing the salt, fresh water is made and it rains on the land to supply fresh water to the land. However, it was said that this sea will disappear. The absence of a sea on Earth means that there are no people living in the flesh. Yes, that is what it means. When people stand before the Great White Throne, there are no people on this Earth who are physically present, and everyone is a spirit. Therefore, there is no longer a need for water. In this way, the present universe will completely collapse before the final judgment and be recreated, creating a new heaven and a new earth, the eternal world.

The words, “I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the sky fled away, and there was no place for them,” mean that since there are no more people who are physically present, He is not bound to the earth of the earth, but spreads a great white throne in space, sits on it, and makes the resurrected bodies of the wicked stand before Him.
